A thangka is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on the medium of cotton, or silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala.
This Tibetan thangka depicts the Refuge Tree - the lineage of Tsongkhapa.
Central figure is surrounded by smaller figures of Buddhas, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, teachers and monks from Gelugpa and other Buddhist sects.
The Thangka uses ground mineral pigment on thick silk in this case (as can be seen in the close up photos), and the whole functions as one of the principle meditational tools in Buddhist practice.
The piece is very beautifully hand painted in fine detail. Quite a work of art.
Mounted on rich heavy brocade fabric - red, blue and yellow. The art could be removed from the fabric and re framed in a traditional frame if required.
Ready for hanging by a cord, the piece has 'a red and yellow curtain' that can shade/hide the image if required. Verso is plain red cotton.
Listed by East2West Furniture Florida.
Top width 23", base width 24". Actual art work is 11"x 17.25". Total H39"
