It consists of a large, antique celadon pottery vase from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), decorated with a delicate white slip design that includes lotus flowers, cherry blossoms, birds, and butterflies—symbols of the changing seasons. It is further enhanced with fine gilt bronze mounts in the French manner.

A commanding piece of generous proportions, this lamp is sure to make a bold statement in an entryway or serve as a stunning accent on a console table or similar piece in the living room. It also makes an outstanding gift to celebrate a milestone occasion or to add to a collection of fine ceramics.

Slip decoration, a Chinese technique that originated in the 17th century, involves painting with wet clay on contrasting glazed surfaces. This method was a precursor to the French Pâte-sur-Pâte technique, in which decoration is built up in layers of liquid clay.
