The magnificent, acid-etched Bellova (Czec shade can be tilted up or down, right or left, thanks to the ball leveler, "advanced technology" for the time period!

The lamp base is made of white metal (spelter) with a "bronze" patina, original, in excellent condition. Of course there are some lighter and darker areas after being for so long subject to normal atmospheric debris. There is a bit of a wrinkle in the metal, nothing especially definitive, which I believe to have been created in the original casting, as there is no evidence of a mishap.

Understated decoration and the repetitive lines on the surround of the base suggest movement away from the more floral branch of Art Deco and into the Moderne. The shade, with all its floral decoration, nicely opposes the severity of the base and adds that "special" touch.

The switch so conveniently positioned where you'd most want it is original and just barely working. However, it DOES work, it's just a little unpredictable. An in-line switch has been installed in the (new) cord, just a few inches from the base, and allows the user to have full or half power as well as "off." I would recommend using the new hi-lo switch and save the original switch just for looks. It could be changed out but the new ones of that nature are larger and in my opinion compromise the sleek look of the lamp.

Dimensions: about 15 1/2 inches high and 12 front to back. The base is about 6 1/2 inches in diameter. See less
