A 1985 photograph by the American photographer Bruce Cratsley (1944-1998). Titled The White Shoes, this black and white photograph captures the lower half of two figures, focusing on a woman's white shoes near the center of the composition. Signed, titled, and dated verso, the photograph is unframed.
Bruce Cratsley was an American photographer that graduated from Swarthmore College in 1966. He worked as a gallerist for 20 years, before becoming a full-time photographer in 1986. In 1988, Cratsley was awarded with a Guggenheim Fellowship. Cratsley followed the LGBTQA+ scene in New York throughout the AIDS epidemic, capturing important cultural events including the New York City LGBT Pride March and the first Wigstock. Today, his works belong in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Harvard Art Library.
