The Lamassu has the body of a bull or lion, the head of a human, and the wings of a bird. It was known to be a powerful, protective entity, and images of the Lamassu were often placed in courtyards and near entrances to households, or buried under doors to protect a threshold. Large statues of the Lamassu were even used to guard the entrances of Mesopotamian cities.

A bold image, the Lamassu on this signet ring can be seen standing with his wings spread behind him. The rings itself has a simple, angular profile that emphasizes the subject matter. This piece makes powerful protective talisman, but also a great conversation starter. Most people are familiar with many of the Egyptian gods and goddesses, but the lesser-known Lamassu is intriguing because it is enigmatic and obscure.
