This exquisite desk was made by August Knobloch’s successor furniture factory. The carpentry factory was part of the circle of Vienna's most important artists around 1900. She appears regularly in the programs of the Vienna Secession exhibitions. Their products were also presented and praised at the most important Austrian decorative arts exhibitions. Some furniture was made for the architect Otto Prutscher. It can therefore be assumed that several other Viennese designers also had their designs made at this furniture factory at the time.
The materials oak and alpaca were rarely used in furniture from this period. The quality of the fittings and the excellent carpentry work should also be highlighted. The strict, reduced shape and compact size make this desk a very special piece of furniture and a wonderful art object. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
