A striking and rare matched pair of monumental Royal Doulton Lambeth vases, produced using the renowned Slater’s Patent stoneware technique and dating to circa 1910. These tall, sculptural pieces exemplify the decorative innovation of the Edwardian period, showcasing a highly textured surface with lavish gilding.
Each vase features a refined baluster form tapering towards the base, surmounted by a wide everted collar in rich cobalt blue glaze. The body is richly decorated with hand-enamelled floral motifs in turquoise and white, set against a textured, two-tone gilded ground that provides visual depth and surface complexity. The result is a sophisticated contrast between the intricate floral detailing and the smooth glazed collar.
Slater’s Patent ware, developed by Doulton in the late 19th century, allowed for the application of fine lace-like patterns beneath translucent glazes, producing the distinctive effect seen on these vases. Marked on the underside with the impressed Royal Doulton Lambeth stamp and model number X2987, this pair is an exceptional representation of British stoneware craftsmanship.
