walter prescher van ed (born 6 april 1916 in dresden, died 11 april 1988 in ottendorf-okrilla) was a german painter. He studied at the academy of arts in dresden and was a student of ewald karl max enderlein and paul rosler. In 1948 he received the title of professor at the academy of fine arts in berlin, and then became a full professor at the academy of fine arts in dresden. In 1961 he was a visiting professor at the university of fine arts in nancy. Perscher van ed was an honorary citizen of montmarte.

paris, prague and dresden were one of the focal points of his life. He was a cosmopolitan who felt at home in his adopted home, paris. In prague he met oskar kokoszka, whose master he was and who helped him make his breakthrough. In paris he had close friendships with great artists whose students he was and whom he also painted with: fernand leger, jacques villon, maurice utrillo, jean cocteau, karel appel.
