A contemporary acrylic painting on canvas titled "Signaling - The Displacement" by American artist Robert Birmelin. Signed, titled, and dated 1985-86 on verso. This monumental painting depicts a vibrant nighttime city scene, bustling with people and cars moving about the streets. The people amongst the scene move hectically, crossing over each other and walking through the traffic. The city makes itself known with vibrant colors of store signs, bright street lamps and headlights, and sparkling water reflecting upon the surface of the streets. The foreground of the scene shows three individuals, pressed up almost uncomfortably to the right of the composition. This composition feels very inspired by that of street photography in its framing and subject matter. Although, this painting has many elements of surrealism that separate it from the reality it depicts, such as the foreground individuals phasing through each other at the edges of their bodies. Dimensions: 48 inches tall, 78 inches long, and 2 inches deep (stretched, unframed). In very good vintage condition.
