This set of four (4) authentic antique 19th century lithographs (not offset). by Ernst Haeckel depict micro and macroscopic sea creatures. These four (4) contemporary looking chromolithographs (each color laid in with a separate lithographic stone) by Haeckel were actually printed in the late 19th century. Printed on one side only. These images have the feel of abstracted surreal creations. Haeckel's forms are often borrowed by designers of fabric, etc. Once you notice, you will see Haeckel's designs in many places. A great look for any decor whether mid century modern, contemporary, traditional or eclectic. Dimensions: Apprx. 11"x14" Unframed. Excellent condition. Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (German 1834 – 1919) was a German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor, and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology. The published artwork of Haeckel includes over 100 detailed, multi-color illustrations of micro and macroscopic animals and sea creatures.
