These traditional Tingkop lidded baskets were handwoven by the Pala'wan people of Southern Palawan, Philippines, likely dating to the mid 20th century or earlier. Tingkop baskets were historically used for storing rice, personal goods, and ceremonial items, and were valued household and trade objects within Pala'wan communities. Each basket is tightly handwoven from natural palm or rattan fibers and features a fitted lid and hand-built wood base. The weaving shows beautiful natural variation and patina consistent with age and traditional use. The two baskets nest together for compact storage and display beautifully as a pair.
These are wonderful examples of Southeast Asian indigenous weaving tradition and bring warmth, history, and texture to a space. Perfect for storage, styling shelves, or adding an organic global element to a room.
