This antique stool from … Read more A French Neoclassical carved and painted wood stool, with nicely upholstered seat, from the 19th century. This antique stool from France has been elaborately carved in Neoclassical embellishments with foliate motif pierce-carved apron, flanked within petite bead trimming, and flower heads framed atop each leg. The stool is presented upon four flute and leaf carved, rounded legs that gently taper to their peg style feet. The legs are each braced at their ankles with a wavy x-stretcher that features a three dimensionally-carved urn which rests atop the center, where the braces cross beneath the seat. The fabric is not original but quite a nice/expensive velvet in red. The wood retains its original painted finish. This 19th century French Neoclassical stool would be a splendid seating addition to a bedroom, powder room, or a living room accent piece. See less
