Original 1967 signed print from Edna Andrade’s solo exhibition at East Hampton Gallery in NYC. Signed and dedicated under the image in ink. Provenance is from Charles and Mary Mather (the inscription below the print is to both of them). Charles Mather was on the board of many Philadelphia institutions including PAFA, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Historical Society, etc.

Housed in a new black gallery frame under non glare UV filtering acrylic. Print is in good condition with wear consistent with age. Soft crease across the lower left quadrant. More pronounced in raking light. Please refer to the vignette photo for details.

Edna Andrade (1917–2008) was an American artist and educator whose work played a significant role in the development of Op Art and geometric abstraction. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, Andrade studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) and later taught there for over three decades, shaping the careers of many emerging artists. Her art is characterized by precise, mathematically inspired compositions, vibrant color palettes, and dynamic patterns that create striking optical effects, often blurring the line between art and perception.

Andrade’s work gained national recognition during the 1960s and 1970s, a period when Op Art was at its peak. She was included in landmark exhibitions such as *The Responsive Eye* at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 1965, which brought international attention to the movement. Her pieces were also featured in *Optical Art* at the Museum of Modern Art and other major venues, solidifying her reputation as a key figure in the genre.

Throughout her career, Andrade’s work was exhibited in prominent institutions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Her art was also part of numerous group and solo exhibitions across the United States and Europe.
