Commode hand-made in the Netherlands in the late 1700s using oak and dovetail construction. The commode features three drawers with serpentine fronts and beautifully made dovetail joints. The top in composed of two boards with carved ogee edges on three sides, rounded corners, and a serpentine front. The bottom of the case is decorated by simple molding on three sides, and the front molding follows the same serpentine patterns as the top and the drawer fronts. The commode is very simple in lines, yet it exhume sophistication given by the beautiful patina and blue highlights under the icy grey crackled color. The piece still sits on its original bun feet, however the hardware is not original, but still antique, and marries well the style of the commode well.
The chest has an age split on each of the sides which is absolutely not structural but due to age and shrinkage of wood that has lived in humid and then dry conditions over centuries of life. This is both a large at small commode, its low height make it look small, but it is actually extremely roomy inside and can provide plenty of storage space. The paint and patina on it make it a unique piece that will lighten a room while providing decoration and style.
