These precious tuberoses, tulips, narcissi, … Read more The "L'Herbier du Roy" collection is produced using the printing press of the Chalcographic workshop. These precious tuberoses, tulips, narcissi, lilies and hyacinths, perennial wallflowers and valerians, modest carnations and bellflowers are printed from the engraved copper plates kept in the Chalcography Room of the Louvre museum. The Trianon garden in Versailles had over 96,000 plants and 2 million buried pots enabling a large team of gardeners to vary the compositions rapidly to arouse the surprise and admiration of the guests and courtiers. Thanks to the talent of artists, they have 319 engraved copper plates, still in the national collections, as well as the superb prints that now form the "Herbier du Roy". They show the most subtle aspects and features of each plant, from the root to the petals, through an extremely precise drawing and an amazing virtuosity in the rendering of tones. See less
