This unique and elegant French Art Deco occasional table is crafted from fine European blonde walnut. Its structure consists of two square tiers, positioned closely together and supported by a sturdy rectangular column that rests on a solid rectangular base. This design ensures exceptional compactness, solidity, and stability. Handcrafted between 1930 and 1935 by a master artisan in a prestigious woodworking atelier in Pont-de-Beauvoisin—a French town in the Isère department, known as the "City of Furniture" for its long-standing woodworking tradition—this table stands out for the exceptional quality of its wood: European walnut, also known as national walnut, distinguished by its warm blonde hue. Walnut (Juglans regia) is a prized and costly wood, but the European variety is even more valuable. It is characterized by a lighter color with golden undertones, warm shades, and more pronounced grain patterns, making it particularly sought after in luxury furniture design. This hardwood has been admired for centuries for its striking natural beauty. Unlike American walnut, which is darker, prone to fading over time, and less expensive, European walnut retains its vibrant tones and superior quality. The craftsmanship involved in creating this table has further enhanced the wood’s natural beauty, highlighting its rich colors, flame patterns, and intricate grain. Traditional techniques of sanding, varnishing, and polishing have also improved the walnut’s resistance to absorption, preventing wax polishes from penetrating the wood’s surface and compromising its structure. The artisans who created this table have masterfully produced a remarkable, refined, and captivating piece of furniture—one that evokes a sense of history, tradition, and functionality. Light European walnut furniture is highly coveted but also expensive, as the usable portion of wood from each tree is quite limited. This table is a valuable and original piece, a perfect representation of the Art Deco style. Its elegant and sophisticated design, with graceful yet bold lines, makes it a truly distinctive and timeless object. Meticulously restored by our team of skilled artisans using traditional hand-finishing techniques, the table has been further enhanced, showcasing the outstanding qualities of this exceptional wood. It is in excellent condition.
