This cut crystal cigar ashtray with an 800 silver rim top dates to the late 1800s Germany. A stunning piece with brilliant reflection in the starburst pattern base, it is a heavy and solid example of German craftsmanship. Historically, 800 silver was a common standard for flatware, jewelry, and coinage in various parts of Europe, particularly in countries like Germany and Italy.
800 silver is slightly more durable than higher purity silver pieces because of the addition of other metals. Several minor rough edges to the flanged sides can be felt but barely visible. Attributed to GEBRÜDER KÜHN.
