The … Read more Baroque console in lime wood, Lombardy, early 18th century. Marbled molded top, under-top band and shaped uprights, connecting crosspieces. The richly carved console features reserves, phytomorphic and floral decorations, leafy and 'C' shaped volutes, curls and frets; in the upper part of the uprights, mirrored leaf scrolls support the lambrequins. In the center of the under-top band we find a basket containing flowers and plant branches, while just below, in the center of the crosspiece, there is a basket containing a fruit and leaves, placed within an architecture of volutes with a crowned cymatium. Replaced floor, restorations. This console is a beautiful example that testifies to the influence exerted by French taste on Lombard Baroque. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
