Beautiful example of an antique Chinese Martaban style jar from the 19th century. Terracotta with an olive hand applied glaze. In the glaze is also hand painted symbols, flowers and a bird.
Large shape with high shoulders. Was used for spices and ginger storage. Now would look exceptional as a planter with lush leafy vegetation.
