Large in size, exceptional in quality, having ornate fine detail throughout, these hand-crafted Asian religious folk art antiques, circa 1700-1815, present with wonderful original glaze finish, stately, highly stylized, each whimsical beast depicted in powerful regal forward facing stance, front paws perched on ball (representing power over the world), roaring with teeth exposed and mouth open. Makes for a bold, dramatic statement piece. One retains partial export wax (red) seal, indicating they were properly salvaged, acquired and exported. Presumably these end tiles originally adorned the roof of an ancient Chinese Buddhist Temple, protecting it from evil people, spirits and influences.

The one-of-a kind, rare, near matching architectural ornaments present splendidly, with rich, brilliant deep green glaze, outstanding original, heavy elegantly aged patina. They can be polished if desired but we prefer display their incredible history, and rustic old world character and charm.

Highly decorative, the two figures can be displayed almost anywhere. Use the two as mantelpiece statues, on the floor flanking your fireplace or perched atop the mantel ledge, as traditional decor adorning the top of a table, shelf, commode chest or sideboard. Add interest to an entry by placing the pair in the foyer or outdoors protecting the front door or gate; displayed as a sculpture on a pedestal, column or stand; accent a garden, landscaping or patio outdoors, or full circle as a building element, mounting them to a roof, replacing a dragon or gargoyle; inside or outside this impressive matched pair is sure to add class, unique, interesting character and luxurious sophistication, start conversations, all while making a powerful statement.
