With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exceptional antique bookcase. We simply cannot overstate just how wonderful and practical this bookcase is as it is among the finest which we have ever offered. The case is constructed from a premium grade of solid tiger oak and overall the entire case has developed a beautiful color which fully accentuates the full of depth of grain and character of the wood. The top of the bookcase features a rounded cornice that projects over both doors as well as the rounded columns on either side. Each column is adorned with expertly carved leaf patterns that appear as true to life as real foliage. The interior of the bookcase features a total of eight shelves divided by a central vertical partition that creates an individualized storage area behind each door. This partition creates a much stronger bookcase structurally and makes housing a collection of books easier to manage. The bookcase has vertical system holes which allow every bookshelf to be raised or lowered to a custom height as to accommodate nearly any collection of books.
This bookcase is constructed in a double door format and features upper sections of leaded glass with repeating shield designs. The presence of these shields elevates it in desirability above most other bookcases available in today's market. The bookcase stands on expertly carved lion paw feet that feature rounded toes and intricately carved toenails. The doors still retain the elaborate brass handles which are often striped off and replaced. We have owned many antique bookcases throughout nearly half a century of collecting and with all confidence we can say this example is superior in most ways to the typical bookcase produced in the Victorian era. Overall this bookcase measures 48 1/2" wide x 14 3/4" deep x 58 1/4" tall. The interior storage area measures 22 1/4" wide x 10 3/4" deep from behind the glass door to the backboards.
