The paint has been sealed up with a matte sealer (invisible) without sheen. The beautiful patina will withstand everyday use. The commode itself doesn't seem to have any flaws. One note: The top is not solid wood but a wood veneer and is much lighter that a solid piece. The back side is not solid but a wood panel. less
