A vintage 20th century re-strike of an 18th century etching and hand colored from the original engraving plates on paper Dated March 1755, this etching is a portrait of a famous race horse, "Childers". The script below the image gives the horse's genealogy and breeders' names. Richard Houston, the engraver, (1721-1775) did a number of similar horse portraits although he is better known for his human portraits! The image is done after a painting by James Seymour (1702-1752), who became famous for his equestrian art works.
