The painting is absolutely enormous and would make a fantastic statement piece for a western home in Colorado or anywhere else that needs a fantastic Western Themed painting. The artist is exhibited in the Smithsonian in DC and is well known amongst collectors of American landscape collectors. The canvas is in good condition and signed and dated and the frame is in good condition with some minor gilt losses. This is a masterpiece and deserve a large wall in a fantastic, distinctive home.

The painting dates to 1879 and measures 127.5 long x 79.5 x 2.75 deep.

Henry Arthur Elkins was born in Vershire, Vermont in 1847 and his family subsequently moved to Chicago when he was nine. In the summer of 1866, Henry Chapman Ford, James Gookins, and Elkins, all artists living in Chicago, formed a party and started out from the Missouri River heading into the Rocky Mountains. Mainly self-taught, Elkins took lessons from and travelled with the great Albert Bierstadt. He traveled extensively, especially in California and Colorado which the majority of his works depict. He died in Georgetown, CO in July 1884. See less
