Jasperware, or jasper ware, is a type of pottery first developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. Usually described as stoneware, it has an unglazed matte "biscuit" finish and is produced in a number of different colors, of which the most common and best known is a pale blue that has become known as "Wedgwood blue". Relief decorations in contrasting colors (typically in white but also in other colors) are characteristic of jasperware, giving a cameo effect. The reliefs are produced in molds and applied to the ware as sprigs. This example of the colors being reversed, if more of what is seen in their Queens ware line. Its measurements are Width: 4 7/8 in x Height: 2 1/4 in. There are Roman-esque decorations applied in blue, placed on top of lid and circling the sides of bottom bowl. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. Comes in original box. There is a small silver mark on the top of lid. And a small red dot on inside bottom of bowl. See less
