Abstracted Figurative and Stone in Acrylic on Textured Paper
Abstracted cityscape by California-based artist Ricardo de Silva (Brazilian, 20th Century). At fist glance, this piece appears to be an abstract work with bold colors, but upon closer inspection, architectural and industrial shapes emerge. To the right, a row of rooftops create a skyline against a glowing yellow sky. To the right is a figure. To the left, a series of inset arches give the impression of a pathway or alley.
Signed and dated at the bottom edge: "de Silva 1986"

From a collection of Ricardo de Silva's work and memorabilia. DeSilva was a gallery owner, first in Santa Barbara in the 1960's and 70's, then in San Jose in the 1980's. He was dedicated to promoting the work of talented upcoming artists, including Kogyo and Hasui Kiyochika, Robert Frame, Jim Stuckenberg, Alice Robertson Carr, Deborah Eve Alastra, Russell Kelly, and Diana Mark.
