Created in China during the Han Dynasty, this ancient terracotta sculpture showcases a dog standing in an alert position. Referred to as a Mingqi, this terracotta dog was likely a funerary object buried with the deceased. Ancient Chinese believed dogs were able to protect them from evil and help them enjoy a peaceful afterlife.
