This striking vintage teapot is a mid-century Japanese export piece (1950s–1970s) made of porcelain and decorated in the ornate Satsuma style. The body is covered in richly detailed, raised enamel painting with cobalt, lavender, green, and gold accents. A sculpted phoenix-style spout and curved floral handle add a dramatic, sculptural touch. The lid is finished with a gold finial. The base is stamped “Satsuma” with a geometric export mark typical of post-war Japanese ceramics.
Such a beautiful, colorful and unique piece! It can be used as a tea pot, as it does pour, but these pieces were generally made for decorative purposes.
