Jindrich Halabala re-upholstered bentwood lounge chairs, 1940s Czech Republic. These iconic lounge chairs are from Czechia, dating back to circa 1940. Produced by Thonet, the model H-227 was designed by Jindrich Halabala and exemplifies mid-century design in Central Europe. The chairs feature an uncomplicated and sleek geometry that contrasts with the soft, comfortable seat, enhanced by dynamic bentwood elements. Using modernist terminology, Halabala created a distinctive aesthetic that is passionate, streamlined, and humanistic—ideal for inviting and functional domestic spaces. The chairs have been re-upholstered in a comfortable fabric. Like all our upholstered pieces, they can be newly upholstered to your specifications. We have many of these armchairs available, making them perfect for interior projects such as restaurants or hotels. Note: We have 12+ pairs available in their original upholstery, ideal for larger projects. About the creator: Jindrich Halabala was born in 1903 in the Czech Republic. He began his career as an apprentice in his father's workshop. After gaining experience and knowledge about woodworking, he studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. Upon graduating in 1926, he joined Bohumil Hübschmann's studio in Prague and later worked as Artistic Director for the UP Company. This company adapted its production processes to cater to new consumption trends and mass production. Halabala, in turn, took on new responsibilities, leading to the creation of high-quality furniture that remains competitive with other leading European manufacturers. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
