19th Century French Louis XV Serpentine Walnut Display Armoire ~ Bookcase is a magnificent expression of the Rococo style, rendered … Read more 19th Century French Louis XV Serpentine Walnut Display Armoire ~ Bookcase is a magnificent expression of the Rococo style, rendered in exquisite French walnut that is a bit on the blonde side, for a lighter, more contemporary color. Topped with an arbalette crown festooned with a lavish stylized shell and foliate crest, it is fitted with a full length glazed door wonderfully contoured with subtly curvaceous lines, hung with brass hinges. The framework around the door is also embellished with fine hand-carved detail, including the undulating apron with its complementary shell and foliate centerpiece and boldly scrolled and carved legs with escargot feet. A further style feature is the serpentine sides, extraordinarily difficult to execute, but amazingly elegant when done right. Door opens wide to reveal four adjustable shelves and a lower floor for five display surfaces, plus a convenient interior drawer.
