From the estate of Pacific Northwest Antique Dealers and Collectors for over 60 years:
This little beauty is a rare one! Have only seen one other like it. What a lovely addition to your Portieux Vallerystahl or opaline collection. An antique, Victorian classic: Wild & Wessel lamp design with gorgeous, handblown aqua glass body most certainly made in France. The lamp is small, and would be a lovely jewel on your nightstand, shelf, mantle, table.
Currently the lamp is missing the lighting device and chimney. It looks great as is or could be repaired for use. Or unscrew the top and use as a vase!
Emil Wild and Wilhelm Wessel founded their own lamp manufactory in Berlin in 1844, after previous work in France. Their manufacturing company not only become the inventor of very good, technically-sophisticated burners, but also become a trademark of the German lamp industry through their very high-quality pieces. As such, their lamps are highly coveted and sought after by today's collectors.
