A large and impressive painting In good original condition showing some typical age-appropriate wear from normal use, it does have some tears and punctures along with some losses to its frame.

Biography of Franklin Dullin BRISCOE (1844-1903)
Birth place: Baltimore, MD
Death place: Phila., PA
Addresses: Phila., PA (1848-on)
Profession: Marine, history, and portrait painter
Studied: Edward Moran, 1860; travel to Europe.
Exhibited: PAFA, 1863, 1885; Brooklyn AA, 1873; Philadelphia Centennial, 1876
Comments: A well-known and successful marine painter of the last quarter of the 19th century, Briscoe made many extended ocean voyages where he found his subject ó the ocean and its ships in all types of weather. In 1885, he also painted a major historical mural, "The Battle of Gettysburg," which was 13 feet tall by 230 feet long, in ten panels (location unknown).
