An 18th Century Louis XV French marquetry bureau de pente, or slant front desk, made with veneers of mahogany, rosewood and tulipwood with oak as a secondary wood. Slant front opens to leather writing surface and rosewood lined interior with two drawers and a locked door to a storage compartment. Beneath the slant top is one dovetailed drawer and one false front drawer, each with decorative cast bronze escutcheons. Hardware is of the period but not original to the piece, the drawers originally had pulls. Working locks with three keys. Nice proportions with curved form and cabriole legs. Finish on all four sides, and retaining a nice luster. Minor veneer losses. Circa 1760-1780.
