Elegant and romantic, this Parisian scene features a woman dressed in a sumptuous pink dress, walking gracefully in front of the Arc de Triomphe and Place de l'Etoile. Lelièvre's subtle palette and impressionist touch give this work a timeless and refined atmosphere.
The influence of artists such as Jean-Gabriel Domergue and Pierre Gatier is clearly discernible in the style of this painting. These painters are renowned for their representations of elegant and graceful women of the Belle Époque, and Lelièvre is undeniably part of this artistic tradition.
About the artist: Eugène Leliepvre (1908-2013)
Eugène Leliepvre was born in Montreuil-sur-Mer in 1908 (Pas-de-Calais) and died on November 17, 2013 at the age of 105. He is best known as a cavalry painter and painter of elegant women. This last aspect of his work occupied a significant part of his production between 1940 and 1960. Some of his representations of women are reminiscent of those of Gabriel Domergue.
He also distinguished himself by his hunting scenes and his animal paintings, collaborating for forty years with Le Chasseur Français and illustrating the Manufrance calendar for twenty-three consecutive years.
At the same time, he worked with his wife as a model maker and figurine maker for the Maritime Museum in Paris. In 1951, he was appointed official army painter, recognition of his talent in illustrating military history and uniformology.
His work and his artistic commitment earned him the title of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1998.
