The three balls on the base of this coffee table give the illusion of being made from some translucent material like resin, but they are actually made from wood that has red highlights painted on the surface. The stepped circular base is also made from wood. The glass top measures 48" in diameter and is incredibly heavy! I struggled getting it out of the van on my own and caused the edge to suffer an impact (refer to picture 4), which measures 1.5" in length. Moving the glass top is definitely a two-person task! There is also a chip on the edge of the glass top (refer to picture 5), which was present when I purchased this table. It measures 1" in length. The glass top is a substantial 0.75" thick. There are also a few scratches on the surface of the glass top. The circular base is also quite heavy and requires two people to lift it. It has a few scratches on the side (refer to picture 10).
This coffee table isn't signed, but it resembles the creations of the French biologist and artist, Pierre Giraudon, who encased items inside of resin. This table looks like it was made from resin from a distance because of the glossy finish of the three balls and the red marks painted on the black background. In spite of the flaws on the glass top, this table is truly remarkable!
I photographed this coffee table outside on a sunny day, which allows every detail and flaw to be seen clearly in the pictures. The colors may look different inside a room under artificial light.
