Historic shankyamuni buddha in copper alloy, laos, late 18th early 19th century.
elegant copper alloy image representing the buddha in bhūmisparśa mudrā, characteristic of the kingdom of luang prabang or vientiane.
the elongated face, the finely stretched ears and the tapered flame bear witness to the refinement of laotian statuary. The delicately engraved sanghati, the finesse of the facial features and the stepped trapezoidal base anchor the work in the artistic heritage of laos from the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century of luang prabang (1707-1949) or vientiane (1707-1828)
beautiful brown patina with traces of old gilding, revealing authentic wear. A piece with a remarkable presence, imbued with serenity, witness to laotian buddhist art.
