This … more A gorgeous ikat fabric fragment from 18th century France, how wonderful ! LOVELY hand dyed yarns using indigo blue. This panel is a lovely light weight, soft hand woven cotton such a wonderful long piece! This fabric was likely once a part of a larger curtain set. There are 3 metal curtain rings left for hanging at the top of this panel. The selvages are intact, thought one is sewn up with a hem. Just a gorgeous piece of fabric!! This piece would be wonderful used as a wall hanging or scarf, and would be great for very small projects or study, etc!!! Beautiful for any timeworn interior ( Ikat E38 )

Measurements: this panel measures approximately 36.5 inches by 72 inches

Condition: This fabric is in unwashed as found condition with storage dust. This piece could use laundering. There are some pale storage marks that may not wash fully. There is a small hole in one side edge and a small tear at the top by the curtain rings. Some of these rings are missing or torn away. Please use the photographs to view condition closely and contact me with any further question! Condition reflected in the price.

An Ikat fabric is woven using a very complicated dyeing technique. The dyes are applied to the yarns prior to weaving which will create designs on the finished fabric. Depending on the pattern, specific areas of the warp and/or weft threads are are protected from dye to prevent them from absorbing color. When the threads are dyed, each thread will have different color pattern along its length. When the threads are ready for weaving, it is very important to line each thread up perfectly on the loom. The warp thread is first to be set on to the loom, and then one must keep all threads in position very carefully to achieve the desired pattern in the final weaving of the textile. There is natural movement in these threads, which give an slightly feathered, or blurred look to the final textile. Ikat textiles are labor intensive, and wonderful heirloom treasures
