A beautiful Art Nouveau Era drape! This textile is French and dates to circa 1890. It likely would have hung from a ciel de lit as a large bedding curtain. The pattern is a wonderful large scale, inventive, swirling floral design, on a red ground in a beige tone! This beige color may lighten with washing, I am not 100% sure! The ground is a dark red, and is less accurately depicted in the smaller photos, please make a note of that! The fabric is A gorgeous medium to heavy weight cotton and linen fabric with a twill weave. It is very sturdy! There are many tiny little metal curtain rings, along a band of linen curtain tape, at the top back for hanging. There are several long seams down the length of this drape. I simply adore this textile, it would add so much charm to any vintage interior or would be lovely for use of the fabric in upholstery, pillows, bedding textiles etc! (E522)
Measurements: This curtain measures about 150 inches wide at the bottom by 84 inches long The top, where it is gathered measures 68 inches wide.
Condition: This textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition. The color may lighten with washing, I believe there is some storage dirt on this piece. Remarkable condition with perhaps some pale marks and uneven aging of the lighter floral elements of the pattern. There are 2 or 3 very small holes.
