James Rosenquist’s L’Olfatto (The Sense of Smell) was created in 1974 as part of the I Cinque Sensi (The Five Senses) This series invited prominent artists to interpret the five human senses. Rosenquist, a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, contributed this piece to represent the sense of smell.
It was produced in a limited edition (number 1805).
In L’Olfatto, Rosenquist employs his characteristic style of blending fragmented imagery and vibrant colors, inviting viewers to engage with the sense of smell through visual abstraction. The composition reflects his background in commercial art and his ability to transform everyday visuals into thought-provoking art.
