We purchased these unique screens (4 panels) over 20 years ago from a local design house in Pasadena, Ca.
Mr. Turrentine, the owner and designer, had recently sourced from an estate and he believed these were from the late 1800's or early 1900's based on the carvings, & lattice deisgn and patina. Based on their large dimensions, it is believed these were courtyard door panels. We have used these screen as a dramatic accent for the various rooms:
-- Dining room
-- Front foyer entry at our loft with 12' ceilings
-- Master bedroom (current location), each pair flanking the bedside.
The dominant color is red/oxblood that has developed some brown patina over time. The inlay designs are flowers and either peacock or crane. There are trace amounts of gold around some of the upper surround edges.
Each pair are joined with hinges at top and bottom to allow display flexibility. Also, we have a custom mount of Japanese Washi paper affixed to the back side of each of the four (4) openings. When illuminated from behind, it adds a dramatic effect. There really is nothing like these screens that we have seen. The closest was famed restaurant Hakkasan in London.
We are now changing the design aesthetic and would love to find a new home for them. We are located in the San Francisco Bay Area. We can help with arranging shipping / delivery but that would be quoted separately.
