Perfect For Repurposing!!
An interesting, uncommon, and highly unusual antique American sculptural tooth form painted metal and cast iron industrial dentist cuspidor / instrument holder atop tripod legged pedestal stand base from the 19th century.
Given the lack of both modern plumbing and electricity in the 1800s, these rare and now highly collectible cuspidors (commonly referred to as spitting sink, spittoon, rinse receptacle or spit bowl) were part of the "dental engine" which included the exam chair and various dentistry tools in Victorian era dentist medical offices as well as some hospitals and doctors practices.
What makes this example so unique is the shaped top, modeled as a human tooth, apropos for a dental office. With a deep basin and dentist tool holder with dished rim.
Versatile:
Functional and decorative, this remarkable piece can be used a variety of different ways, including as fun piece of yard art, patio table, early Americana folk art sculpture or garden ornament, free-standing flower box planter, jardiener cachepot pedestal, support nature and use it as a bird bath / birdbath, place a piece of glass on top and use it as a one-of-a-kind side table, accent table, cocktail drinks stand, weird server, or fill it with ice and use as a beer cooler tailgating, wine bottle chiller or ice bucket pail, the possibilities are endless.
A wonderful conversation starter, curiosity, oddity, or simply rustic industrial decor, it's fun, whimsical, and functional, and makes for a wonderful collectible gift, especially for someone in dentistry, medicine, or simply loves the absurd!
It's in great shape with beautifully aged patina, distressed, chippy white paint original finish, heavily worn, patinated, primitive, solid, sturdy and very stable
