This cute little French Bulldog door stop bears all the hallmarks of an original Hubely Manufacturing Co., Lancaster Pa, circa … Read more This cute little French Bulldog door stop bears all the hallmarks of an original Hubely Manufacturing Co., Lancaster Pa, circa 1910 to 1940 doorstop, Style no. 304. Cast iron seam, flat head single screw in back of chest to join the two halves.


We do not believe that this is the original paint, which in many circumstances would be typical of an item that is 110 years old. But the dimensions and design with the iron seam, shape, and screw location lead us to the conclusion that this can be attributed to Hubely (style no. 304) but was repainted and touched up by prior owners.

The bottom shows the casting process as well as the metal workers actions in carving out and creating the wooden form and hammering the design out in the metal. The metal as per the bottom of this dog is shown as being pressed into finally compacted sand creating an impression, with the cast iron heated to 3000 degrees then poured into a sand mold. The bottom of the paws is relatively rough indicating that it is probably an earlier version of this model.
