Claes Oldenburg-inspired agave plant soft sculpture in matte-glazed architectural pottery planter.
Artisan-crafted individual agave plant "spikes" which have been "planted" into a Midcentury Modern planter as a whimsical nod to the work of Claes-Oldenburg. We utilized a vintage 1985 textile to playfully gesture to a time just after the 1960s, when Swedish-born Oldenburg (in collaboration with his wife, Coosje van Bruggen) became well-known for his public art installations which typically featured very large replicas of everyday objects.
The stone grey, vintage, matte-glazed authentic, architectural pottery planter serves as the perfect vessel for this piece of art. The planter is in excellent condition with one, very hard to see chip at the recessed base. Orienting the flaw to the back is also an easy way to disguise it.
