Byoung Yong Lee (KR 1948-2001) abstract mixed-media composition of gouache and watercolor on Asian art paper signed "Byoung Yong Lee - 1992" in light red pencil.
Byoung Yong Lee received his BFA in Fine Arts from Hong-Ik University, Seoul in 1973 and his MFA from New York's Pratt Institute in 1986. He has successfully exhibited internationally and received numerous prizes, medals and juried awards. Lee's work combines the painterly abstraction predominant in Paris in the 1950s with a traditional Korean emphasis on technique. This work is accompanied by Byong Hyon Choi' s comprehensive biography of Byoung Lee that was published to coincide with the artist's 1990 retrospective at New York's Phoenix Gallery.
