Engraving "The Harvesters' Pay" Léon LHERMITTE (1844-1925)
Dimensions Frame 47*58 cm / Under glass / The glass is old.
"The Harvesters' Pay" is an emblematic work by Léon Lhermitte, painted in 1882 and currently exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. This painting, of imposing dimensions (215 cm x 272 cm), is a striking example of the naturalist movement in 19th century painting. Lhermitte, born in Aisne and deeply attached to rural life, depicted a daily scene where peasants receive their daily pay at the end of their working day in a farmyard.
The painting features several characters, each with a specific role: a tired old harvester, a woman breastfeeding her child, and a group of workers receiving their wages. The composition is carefully orchestrated to capture the viewer's attention and guide them through the different elements of the scene. Lhermitte used subtle compositional lines to create areas of interest, such as an oval that keeps the eye focused on the main characters.
