A hand painted porcelain bowl that was made by the New York Ceramic artist, Scott McDowell in the 1980's.
The glaze is a pale blue with hints of violet. It has been further decorated with crossed gilt lines and a gilt mouth ring. The hand thrown bowl shows the potter's wheel marks on the bowl sides under the glaze. It has a very shallow unglazed foot. The unglazed base is incised with name of the artist, Scott McDowell.
Provenance: It was a gift from the artist to us many years ago.
MEASUREMENTS
9 5/8 in (24.4 cm) diameter x 2 5/8 in (6.7 cm) deep. Weighs 1 lb 5.9 oz.
CONDITION
There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repairs. There are a couple of minor firing imperfections, such as a bump and a glaze miss. The gilding and glazes are in excellent condition.
A very colorful and artistic porcelain bowl from the New York artist, Scott McDowell, that epitomizes the 1980's post-modern aesthetic.
