Signed lower left, 'Bonnaure' for Alain Bonnaure (French, born 1941) and painted circa 1995.
When he was a young artist, Alain Bonnaure's work was purchased by the renowned French painter Albert Sallot, This confirmed his life's path and, with Sallot's strong recommendation, Bonnaure went on to study in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and, over the course of a long career, has exhibited worldwide with success including in France, Japan and the United States.
In the artist's words:
"Looking back, I have come to realize that the position of light in my paintings has become more and more important over time. My first teacher was the great sculptor Henri Bosquet, from whom I learned drawing, form and volume. My second teacher, Gromer, taught me the love of color and discovered space and light by placing myself in nature. Then I was fascinated by the Impressionists. First Cezanne, who knew how to paint rays of light with powerful balance and mixing paints. Then I was fascinated by Van Gogh's human passion, and Turner's magic power of light. His modern vision was a forerunner of Impressionism. Monet is my undisputed teacher. He captures a moment of day on canvas with extremely precise colors and paints nature lovingly, beautifully and dreamily. Fascinated by these painters, capturing the beauty of the seasons and the fleeting moments of light became the main theme of my paintings.
