The book recalls the visits to the author's friends, the Fields' home by many famed authors & stage actors. The book was compiled from the diaries of Mrs. James T. Fields. There are 45 glossy photos of the authors & actors Fields hosted when they came to Boston, in famous stops along the way or while in town for pricey, ticketed public lectures or plays. These actors were the "Rock Stars" of the late 19th C, and apparently Mrs. Fields was the "Martha Stewart" who welcomed them into her home. The visitors included Dr. Holmes, Longfellow, Dickens, Twain, Jewett and many more. The book is in good antique condition - clean, bright & unmarked. Former owner names are inside front cover & on first blank page. Also, a small 1920s-era book label from The Old Corner Book Store, in Boston.The green leather spine, is worn up top & at bottom from shelf wear. Very light sunned margins, foxing on bottom of frontis photo & tissue guard. This treasured book is fully intact, with minor weakening hinge.
