Yes, this was intended to be a hanging ashtray. However, if you do not smoke it could be used as a small planter, it could hold your garden hand shears or your garden gloves on you sun porch or patio or simply hang it because something this cool does not need a functional purpose! I have owned this since about 1995. The person I got it from had owned it since late 60’s/early 70’s.
For the most part it has simply been an accent piece in my courtyard and in my sunroom. I have yet to see another one like it and I shop quite a bit.
Sturdy metal hook on top.
There are no markings or identifying marks.
