Both are seated and … Read more A large pair of Chinese ancestral portraits depicting a patriarch and matriarch of high ranking status. Both are seated and wearing beautifully decorated robes and hats. The design of the woman's hat/headdress is amazing! Mounted on dark wood frames with a textile (possibly silk) border and no glass. Frames have a wonderful patina with decorative metal accents on the sides and metal hangers at the top.

Condition: Overall, very good condition. The paintings are in excellent condition. The wood frames show minor, age appropriate wear. The textile border does show a water line at the bottoms of both, but this is not noticeable in most light and at an angle, you really have to look for it closely. This can be remedied if bothersome by a textile conservator but in my opinion, these display nicely as-is. Interestingly, this does not show up at all on the paper backing.
